Vaadu Veedu- A review

I like Bala`s type of movies. I expected Vaadu Veedu to be an entertainer and I was not disappointed. The titles take off with a brilliant background score by Yuvan, who is my favorite music director. The introduction of Vishal received tremendous applause from the gallery. Vishal has unleashed the actor within him in this movie. Arya played the role of Dandalaswamy with ease. It is really difficult to underplay an emotion. Arya`s performance in the climax and when he pulls out the mouth of Highness in a drunken stupor was fantastic. The scene that received the maximum applause was Vishal driving a bullet in a 80`s haircut. Janani Iyer`s expression when she says “walteru, I want more emotion” suggests she is a good actress. Madhushalini is adequate. The song between Arya and her is the best of the lot.
Coming to the direction and screenplay, there were a few loopholes like what happens to the 1 crore worth goods that Vishal runs away with. If he surrenders that immediately, Arya would not have been put in the prison at all. In the song after Highness agrees to Arya`s marriage. Highness is seen giving some documents to Madhushalini`s father. It definitely does not mean him giving away his remaining property as he stays in that house after the song. Anyways with Bala being Bala, I will give the benefit of doubt. When I saw the movie for second time, I realized Bala had a good grip on the story. The narration was perfect with no abrupt jumps. The scene of Vishal showing his acting prowess to Surya should have been shot better.
Another show-stealer is the Highness. Him cracking the mirror, feeding the pigeons, stopping Surya with “nenu Highness ni chepthunnaa” and his performance in the climax scene were instances of top notch performance. I will be surprised if Vishal does not get the Best Actor Award this time. The occasional expletives and lewd gestures only add to the credibility of the plot. While watching Bala`s movies, I understand how Dominique would have felt after seeing the works of Roark.
