It was a great match with both Fed n Nadal having a go at history. But to term it the greatest, well I have some serious second thoughts. The scoreline and the match duration time suggest a classic encounter though the former has been aided by lots of unforced errors from Federer and the latter by some delaying techniques of Nadal. Still I liked the last 3 sets. Fed has been inconsistent with his shots and with his mighty serve, he would have won over anyone other than Nadal. He went for more winners which resulted in a large number of unforced errors. With the sword dangling over Federers head before the finals and the unfamiliar situation of being 2 sets to down, he staged a remarkable comeback only to falter at the last step.
Still I think there is so much Nadal has to do. He is not the world number 1, leave aside he staying there for 230+ weeks ; he doesnt have 5 consecutive wimbledons to his name; of course he has 4 french and he may be the only one after Borg to win Queens n Wimbledon same year. He needs to prove his mettle in US and Australian. If he plays like this, he will not falter elsewhere except may be in the finals against U-Know-Who. And yeah Nadal is just 22 and has won 5 slams while Fedex has only a single wimbledon to his credit. But achievements at younger age will not ensure that u r the best player..Chang has won his 1st grand slam at 17.
Nadal may be number 1 in future, but it may be delayed like his triumph in Wimbledon. I was hoping mahela brings on mendis sooner that would get me to watch tennis. I should thank Mendis for sending the batsmen packing.
