Why should men and women be treated differently?

October 13, 2007

It is one of the topics for the elocution that has been recently conducted. Till a few hours back, I have never thought of the topic but a speech spurred me on. I think that men and women should be treated differently but equally. I have been thinking of 33% reservation for women. I don`t see any point of continuing it in today`s world. Back in 1947, there was a lot of imbalance between men and women which demanded women be given some reservations. But now there is little to choose between men and women. Women are at least the equals of men in intellect and are even better than them as quoted by a speaker. If that is the case, why should they be given reservations? Their oppression before 100 years is mentioned and all the evil practices like sati, child marriage and female infanticide are taken into account and made reasons for which they should be treated with special respect now.

Should any of you be hanged or punished for the sin which your great great grand father has committed? Then why should men be deprived of what they deserve, just because centuries ago their ancestors have oppressed women? If that is the case the quote “Hard work is the key to success” should be modified “Gender is the key to success”. If a guy gives a better performance than a gal, on what grounds can he be denied admission?  If there are 100 seats in an institution,50 boys and 50 girls topped the exam. And 33% reservation to gals means only 16 boys will get through. How harsh on the other 34 boys who were denied a seat just because they are born in India as males.

I think that reservation should be only given to those based on their economic status but not on the arrangement of chromosomes. There are atrocities committed against women even today. But the weak are always targeted. Not every woman in the street is bound to be exploited. It is mostly the poor who is taken advantage of. So we should try to bridge the  gap between the rich and the poor. Fortunately the Government has not passed an act that all MNC`s in India should make sure 33% of their employees are women. If that were the case, I would not have been pursuing an IT course . That could have been the only silver lining.

P.S.1. Those who disagree with me can comment and I will be more than happy to try n change their viewpoint.

P.S.2. Last 7 days, I have seen 5 movies…broke my previous record

P.S.3. It would have been nice if IIIT has 33% reservation for gals every four years so that no batch is disappointed. But that would lead to a lot of competition I guess and many more Tysons ( courtesy: Happy Days mov)

It goes on and on…

Time is not really a rare commodity here. One can find loads of it if he does not bind his mind to acads(Phew! I will never get over this fascination with rhyme). The kink is I never wanted to change. In many ideas that formed a new aphoristic “ME”, I have placed irrefutable faith. My mind and heart( aint that poor at biology though I may seem to) have recently been in fracas with one another. The former wants me to concoct every minute feature of my life . The latter makes me more instinctive and capacitate me to live every moment of my life. What would a free man choose? What would an individual espouse?

What else is more capable of digressing a person from his goal( the goal may/may not be decided by him, but destined for him by the society) than freedom? Surmounting it would take a huge toll on a person. Succumbing to it…hmm I am not sure of long term gains..I would try overcoming it cos I always like to climb steep mountains…I wonder whether there is an end to this conflict..Not in all wars, there are winners and losers. I think there is only compromise here.

Coming to the recent happenings, I think that at least 1 out of 10 would think of playing God if they don`t have friends to drive away the darkness. If you find any unfortunate person, just feel for him. You never know of his sufferings..All you know and conceive is the grief he has left behind. Take into account the pain he would have suffered.

P.S.1.Perhaps I made a compromise already. posting this after half an hour into the NA class.

P.S.2. Turned 21 this week…same feelings as last year..looking back and brooding.

P.S.3. Should seriously attempt to stop trying to send ppl into paroxysms of laughter

Hail everyone!

I am back after a hiatus – unable to decide whether brief or long. I would rather go with the latter as I have come across “brief” more often than naught. Of course, it is more appropriate too…I would perhaps never do the thing the way most of ppl do. Quite a good time it has been all these months. I have been whiling away my time chattin wid pretty( hmm…unable 2 decide..let me say cool) gals, eating out, watching movies, sleepin well…

Not much have I done in the acads part..jus hope I m not goin 2 flunk ne of the course… I wonder whether the panel will read all the 10 pages of BTP report or the insti just wanna ensure a decent income fr the printers they have..

I went to rels house today(shud include this here lest I lose the count..mom says I dont visit them atleast in a year..exactly been a year)had a delicious lunch..bak to the coll fr dinner which correlates to Ind winning T-20 and losing todays match by a huge margin…wat a change of fortunes…It has been happening to me over a few days…They say when a door closes, another door opens…But in my case when a door opens, another door closes..comin 2 the coll, I miss the balanced diet of NBH-GF..havnt eaten there more than twice…I dont see the point of continuing OBH messes if the food is not wholesome and nutritional….perhaps the AP government is goin 2 show the OBH diners to the world bank for grants…

P.S.1.I tried 2 be innocuous but if u feel that I have not succeeded, u have let urself down the wrong way.

P.S.2.Just in case u r wondering wat I cud have written in the past, here`s the link.
